Two weeks from today, seven of us (four from Austin, Texas, and three from Valpo) shove off for Kissy, Freetown, Sierra Leone, West Africa (10 hour layover in London notwithstanding). My eighth trip...and I'm still excited, filled with anticipation.
Anti-malarial med, passport, visa, mosquito netting (yet to be sprayed), 2-50 pound suitcase limit, beads and crafts for "the four musketeers" (Janet, Lettie, Nyallay, Edna..and whoever else)--mental preparations are in full swing.
Only three of our team (Chris, Bob and I) have been to Sierra Leone. Tracy (Austin) has been to Africa before. One of our newbies has a special trip-within-a-trip planned. Robin is going to meet the little girl she sponsors through World Vision for the first time, face to face. Tracy and I hope to accompany her on that trip.
Pastor Andrew Forbie (Brown UMC) has assured us that Christiana is willing to cook for us again; Ibrahim from the Eye Clinic has assured us our accommodations at the guest house are available; John Tucker will be gathering his construction crew (including Santos and David I'm sure) for their/our projects. So many friends I can' wait to see and introduce: Janet, T-boy, Maria, Janet, Sharif, Dr. Marke, Kadiatu, Janet, Steven, Josie, Malcolm, Janet, Pastor Sullay, Naaman, did i mention Janet?
Until next time...
Looking so forward to this trip and to meeting all these wonderful people!!
