The God Article's Sunday Morning Prayer
Good and gracious God,
It only takes a few minutes
of looking around
at this sometimes broken world,
to realized
that we aren't very good
at including
other people.
We certainly seem to be able
to include new people
in most of the things we do.
Just not different people.
It is as if diversity
scares us.
God of Creation,
remind us
that you created
the width,
the breadth,
the depths
and the heights
of this diverse world
which surrounds us.
Remind us that all of it
is a reflection of you,
its Creator,
and that if we ever hope to know
the fullness of you,
if we ever hope to celebrate
the glories of your presence,
we must learn
to celebrate
the diversity you created
and to surround ourselves
in the glorious eclecticness
of your creation
and the people
who live
in it.
In the times that we do not,
inspire us toward creating
not just a better world
but toward creating
a better us.
Give us courage to celebrate
the things that are not like us
and wisdom to see how embracing them
necessarily expands who we are,
in ways which make us
a fuller reflection of you.
Amen.
