Statins show promise for malaria treatment?

Pictures of our completed project have not yet arrived, but this bit of science news was interesting.

Seems lovastatin (aka Mevacor, a commonly prescribed med in the US for lowering our cholesterol ) may hold some hope when added to traditional treatement for malaria.  In mice anyway, lovastatin was noted to minimize the cognitive after-effects of cerebral malaria.  Human studies yet to follow.

Lastly, this poem posted today by Parker Palmer on his FB page I thought was beautiful as we approach the end of calendar year 2012.  It might even capture the sentiment of a person who's traveled to Sierra Leone!
